- A VIKING FAIRY TALE - PART 3 -
"We are going on a raid," called the chief. "It is Wednesday* tomorrow and everyone will be ready. You all know your place so get to work. ´
Knud was going with the chief. The youngest usually went with him so he could teach them about sailing and how to attack from the shore.
The following day was a beautiful sunny day with a light breeze. Knud held on to the handle of his sword. He looked at Thor’s hammer. He was already imagining the battle where he would use his sword and afterwards be proud of his accomplishment.
The slaves pushed the heavy ships into the shallow water and the Vikings embarked on twenty beautiful ships.
The ship with Knud on board made good speed. He was with a few slaves watching the sail and giving out food. What an experience! To travel across an unknown ocean to an unknown land. It was so beautiful to see all the ships as they swam toward new destinations like proud swans.
Suddenly they were there. A green line in the horizon showed land ahead. Knud was getting nervous. How could he, such a young Viking, manage a raid?
The landing went well and moments later the battle began. Knud ran beside the chief. He had always admired him because he was so big and mighty and had a wild looking beard.
